A pioneering educational approach
Cambridge Steiner School is an international Steiner Waldorf School based in a rural location outside the beautiful city of Cambridge in the UK – an hour from London. We offer a broad, imaginative and academically rigorous education that fosters social, emotional and intellectual development based on a highly personalised approach, where each student is valued for their unique qualities.
Our Upper School provides an opportunity for young people to take part in a challenging and transformative programme of integrated education designed to support healthy, balanced development and the acquisition of a wide range of skills. The curriculum has a focus on sustainability and includes:
- Natural sciences
- Language & literature
- Global awareness
- Outdoor education
- Art, craft & design
- Movement & physical education
- Performing arts
The upper school programme
Students who attend Steiner schools gain great benefit from the unique character of the Steiner Waldorf approach to education. Our Upper School makes it possible for students to balance these benefits with the demands for external qualifications.
Integrated Education (IE) qualifications
The Crossfields Institute Integrated Education (IE) qualifications allow us to support the whole and healthy development of each student. The programme includes an Independent Project module that enables students to follow their passion and explore an interest or career aspiration in depth.
- Extended Diploma - equivalent to 8 GCSEs
- Diploma - equivalent to 6 GCSEs
- Ofqual registered
- Same group of qualifications as the IBAC
- Focus on collaborative and individual project work and problem solving
- Students also take Maths and English GCSEs
Key facts about the programme
Students can be accredited in a variety of ways and for a wide range of activities without the stress of a heavy exam load. They create their own unique learning profile demonstrating all they have to offer and contribute, drawing on formal and informal learning from across a rich curriculum.
The Diploma and Extended Diploma are normally undertaken over 2 years, but there is some flexibility, with a maximum time allowed of 4 years.
The IE qualifications are accredited by Crossfields Institute, an approved awarding organisation. Students are awarded a Level 2 Integrated Education Diploma or Extended Diploma, which are on the Ofqual register in the same group of qualifications as the IB.
We are able to offer the Level 2 qualifications for part-time and home-educated students. Some group activities are required.
All students will sit Maths and English GCSE. The IE curriculum dovetails sufficiently so extra tuition will not be necessary.
We are planning to offer IE qualifications at Level 3 (equivalent to A-levels) as soon as possible but in the meantime, Cambridge offers an outstanding range of Sixth Form colleges. Those we have contacted (Hills Road, Long Road and Parkside Sixth Form colleges) are open to taking students with the Level 2 IE Extended Diploma if they have the necessary grades in relevant subject areas.
We are a diverse and inclusive community. Entry is based on an assessment of whether students can make reasonable progress and are likely to achieve at this level. Students must be aged 14 or over when they receive their accreditation.
A good level of written and spoken English is required.
